How do you help combat homelessness in New York City? Six celebrities and designers have taken a stand by participating in Minwax® CHAIRS FOR CHARITY, a design event and online auction to benefit Furnish a Future, a program of The Partnership for the Homeless. All six expressed their creativity by designing and decorating a chair in their own signature style using wood stains and finishes. From a whimsical blue "anchor chair" for television host Meredith Vieira, to a powerful red, white and blue New York Giants chair covered with 30 team autographs, the unique designs express the personality and creativity of an exceptional group.
Accepting the creative challenge were The Honorable Michael R. Bloomberg, mayor of New York City, with designer Jamie Drake; Grammy Award-Winning singer Mariah Carey, with designer Mario Buatta; NBC’s "Today" show host Meredith Vieira, with designer Chris Madden; tennis star Venus Williams; The New York Giants, and NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler.
All of the participants donated their time and expertise to make the project a
success, and from the look of the chairs, many of which are being finished to their specifications in the Minwax® design workshops, they expressed themselves with color and flair. The designs include:
-Mayor Bloomberg and Jamie Drake’s striking tribute to the Big Apple, stained in official colors blue and orange, and incorporating the Seal of the City of New York.
-Pop superstar Mariah Carey’s eye-popping lavender balloon chair, interpreted by Mario Buatta.
-Meredith Vieira’s nautical "anchor" chair interpreted in breezy blues by Chris Madden.
-Tennis great Venus Williams’ dramatic period chair in gleaming ebony and orange silk.
-NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler’s edgy racing stripe and checkered flag rendition.
- A bold and colorful autographed chair from one of the country’s top sports teams: The New York Giants.

Universal Music Group Chief Executive Doug Morris said on Tuesday the world's largest music company will post its best ever revenue and profit in 2007 thanks to new releases from its top-selling artists.
Morris said Universal and other music companies are also starting to see new revenue streams from digital sources, including Apple's iTunes online music service and iPod digital media player, and mobile phone ringtones.
"I think that next year we're going to have our best year," he said at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. "I think our revenues and our profits will be the best we've ever had."
Morris said Universal Music, owned by French media giant Vivendi, will benefit hugely from new albums from Eminem, 50 Cent and two albums from Mariah Carey.
"You can see there are myriad streams of income starting to come into the record companies," said Morris. "We're going to make money from MySpace, we're going to make money from YouTube, we're going to make money from Zune...we will make tremendous amount of money from telephones."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles’ held its 7th annual Wish Night Award Gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday, November 17, 2006. The star-studded event honored those who have supported the organization’s mission to fulfill a wish for every child with a life-threatening illness in Los Angeles County and is expected to net over $225,000.
Receiving the Inaugural Wish Icon Award from wish child presenter, and namesake, Mariah Escamilla, Mariah Carey conveyed how she felt to work with the Foundation and to be honored with the Inaugural Wish Icon Award, which will hereafter be called the Mariah Wish Icon Award.
"Every time I’ve ever done anything with the Make-A-Wish Foundation I’ve felt blessed," said Carey, who added that she "felt like it was fulfilling her wishes too" because she had also once been "a kid with a dream." Carey then smiled and held up the 14-year-old’s hand and asked the audience to "give it up” for her presenter “little Mariah."

As part of the "Blue Banner Biography" series, a biography is being released about Mariah Carey by the same publisher who released "Real-life reader biography" in 1998. The book is just 32 pages thick and the letters are huge. The book starts with Mariah’s breakdown and covers Mariah’s life up until the start of the Adventures of Mimi tour. The funny part is that the book is released in 2007.
The back cover reads:
Mariah Carey was living a dream come true. After growing up poor, Mariah burst on the music scene in 1990. Just 20 years old, her debut album sold over six million copies and made Mariah an instant superstar. Her marriage to record executive Tommy Mottola was also straight out of a fairy tale, and it seemed that Carey would live happily ever after. But she soon found herself struggling both professionally and personally. Her marriage broke up, the movie she hoped would prove her an actress bombed, album sales fell, and she ended up hospitalized for exhaustion. Many thought her career was as good as over. Mariah proved them wrong. In 2005, she released The Emancipation Of Mimi, which became the bestselling album of the year and reestablished Carey as one of the most successful - and resilient - performers in music history.

LOS ANGELES - Despite name and fame as a leading pop diva, Mariah Carey seems unable to break the deadlock at American Music Awards.
This time although she garnered three nominations, the awards did not come her way as funk band Black Eyed Peas dominated the awards yesterday.
The Peas swept away the awards in the rap/hip-hop and soul/R&B categories. They also managed to scoop up the favorite rap/hip-hop album for Monkey Business.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers notched up two awards winning the favorite pop/rock group and alternative music artist.
The do took place at the Shrine Auditorium and was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
The 36-year-old Carey appears to be dogged by bad luck as far as the AMA are concerned. Last year she managed three nominations, but no awards.
The awards are a populist version of the Grammys and are based on retail sales and radio airplay with a random poll among 20,000 record-buyers having the final say.
Eminem was voted the favorite male rap/hip-hop artist, while Toby Keith was the male country artist. Lionel Richie and the all-girl group Pussycat Dolls performed at the function. Richie sang "All Night Long" to get the crowd going.

How do you deal with difficult celebs?
The only one I had a problem with was Christina Aguilera. We went to Pittsburgh where she lives to do a promotional thing for her album Stripped. She’d been out til two in the morning so she came in late and was grumpy. I think she had a hangover.
How did you deal with her?
I told her to sleep for a couple of hours. She was meant to be there at ten. She got there at 12, we started about 6pm and we finished at 4am. She was as good as gold in the end. We got 50, 60 magazine covers and the day was worthwhile.
Have you had to deal with any other divas and their tantrums...
They say that about Mariah Carey, and MC is the nicest person. I love her to death. I just treat her the same as I treat my assistants, with the same respect. Sharon Stone said to me that she’d never worked with a photographer that had so much respect for his assistants. I just said I was once an assistant. I never forget my South London roots.

For most of us, part of Thanksgiving fun is beating other dinner guests to the stuffing. For this hapless holiday group, it was more about getting the stuffing beaten out of them:
Mariah Carey: While the Black Eyed Peas went 3-for-3 at this year’s American Music Awards, the Turnpike Tunester and all-time AMA nominations leader got an 0-for-3 black eye, coming on the six-inch stiletto heels of pissing off fellow absentee winner Slim Shady, with her denials of a 2001 relationship, and wrangling in court with a producer over a cancelled Hong Kong tour date. True, Carey did collect the Make-A-Wish Foundation "Icon Award" last Friday at the Beverly Hills Hotel, but that was, in part, because of her willingness to allow children to take her place at music awards shows. Hmmm ... forgive us for being cynical, but seat-filling in the face of a shutout doesn’t quite seem quite the same as getting a steroid-supplemented big-leaguer to hit one out of the park for you.

Max Martinez, owner of Max women’s boutiques in Cherry Creek, Boulder, Aspen and Highlands, sounds like an impatient kid waiting for Santa when he talks about this year’s Max fashion show.
"We’re getting ready for another great year," Martinez said. "We’ve doubled our projections. Last year at this point we were at $38,000, this year we’re already at $78,000."
Martinez’s models strut their stylish stuff at roughly 9:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Tracks Event Center, 35th and Walnut streets.
This annual fundraiser for Brandon Center, a shelter for battered or homeless women and their children, is Denver’s most anticipated fashionista fest - not just for the European and American couture on the runway - but for all the peacock peeps who competitively dress for the event.
Added to this year’s show is a silent auction, which Martinez hopes will tip the take over the $100,000 mark for the Volunteers of America charity.
"All my vendors have participated in the silent auction," Martinez said. "We have bags from Stella McCartney, Elton John tickets, a trip to Mexico; even Mariah Carey is sending us a big basket with her CDs and signed posters."
One of Max’s vendors donated 300 cashmere sweaters and scarves for the women of Brandon Center.
"It’s all about sharing your luck and making a difference for these wonderful women," Martinez said.
The new venue at Tracks offers more seats (although they’re already sold out) and room for the silent auction. There are still standing-room- only tickets available at voacolorado.org or at 303-307-7335.

Mariah has also backed other fund-raising events. She was a major supporter of Michael Jackson’s efforts to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katriana. And last year she came to Britain to take part in Bob Geldof’s Live 8 concert.

Or they just happen to have that sign up, I was like, 'Oh yeah, Melt Away who knew they even remembered it. So that was cool. There have been so many creative, really, really sweet signs. My fans, they know that it's unparalleled - the creativity they have."

The US singer collected the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Wish Icon Award at the seventh annual ceremony held in Hollywood on Friday.
The honourable award was in recognition of her commitment and generous donations to the charity.
The organisation helps dreams come true for youngsters with life-threatening illnesses.
A charity spokesman said: “She has personally granted dozens of wishes for children across the country. Many children have taken Carey’s place at music awards shows, thanks to her generosity."

A $7,500 (3,917 pound) fur coat donated by pop diva Mariah Carey and intended for Mongolia’s poor has disappeared, a leading animal rights group said on Thursday.
Carey donated the fur coat to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) which told Reuters it had since been lost on its way to Mongolia, where it was to be given to nomads to help them keep warm in the winter.
"After (Carey) received two floor-length minks from a rich admirer, she resealed the box and sent them to PETA," a spokesman said.
"One coat was on its way ... to Switzerland -- where it was to be included in a sealed container bound for Mongolia as part of a worldwide fur-coat drive in conjunction with the Swiss Animal Protection Society," he added.
"But the coat never arrived."
Each year, PETA distributes hundreds of cast-off furs to help clothe the homeless and refugees.
In Mongolia, PETA hires impoverished women to cut donated fur coats into narrow strips. The strips are then handed over to nomad families who use them to make the inner linings of their traditional winter coats.
Carey, 36, whose commercial success has not translated into awards show acclaim, was snubbed at the American Music Awards on Tuesday, despite scoring three nominations.
She was not immediately available to comment.

And you see "Jack" infront of the shower and Mariah is supposedly in the shower and she is singing and Jack starts talking and this is what he says:

 Mariah has been named as one of the first 50 inductees, honored over the course of the next two years, to the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHOF).
The first group of 21 were honored on October 15, 2006 at LIMHOF's First Annual Induction Gala at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, 71 East Main Street in Patchogue.
Mariah is in the second group of 29 who will be inducted in 2007, date and location have yet to be announced. She joins other famous musical artists namely, Barbara Streisand, Carole King, Simon and Garfunkel, Louis Armstrong, Neil Diamond, Pat Benatar, to name a few.

In the current issue of Blender, Christina Aguilera is described as "a major-league drama queen." She has feuded with Britney Spears, Eminem, her former managers, and most recently: Mariah Carey.
Aguilera alleged that Carey was "never cool to me" in the June issue of GQ. "One time, we were at a party and I think she got really drunk, and she had just really derogatory things to say to me," Aguilera told the magazine. "But it was at that time that she had that breakdown, so she might have been very medicated."
Carey responded to Aguilera's remarks with a statement released to Access Hollywood. "I had hoped that Christina was in a better place now than the last time I saw her when she showed up uninvited at one of my parties and displayed questionable behavior," Carey told the entertainment news program. "It is sad yet predictable that she would use my name at this time to reinvent past incidents for her promotional gain. It is in my heart to forgive and I will keep her in my prayers."
Access Hollywood gave the final word to Aguilera who responded, "At this point in my life, I do not want any bad energy with anyone. My intentions were not to upset Mariah with any statements that were published or taken out of context. I have all the respect in the world for her."
It appeared Aguilera was ready to end the conflict; however, when asked about Mariah in the August issue of Allure, Christina offered further unpleasant comments. "She hasn't been nice to me, no, but, honestly, I don't want to give her any more attention by even talking about it," Aguilera told the magazine. "Like I said, sometimes honesty is my downfall."
Nevertheless, during an interview for its latest issue, Blender brings up Mariah’s name, but Christina doesn’t take the bait. "She has an incredible voice," Aguilera tells the magazine.
Perhaps she grew tired of harboring ill will.

Simon Cowell has admitted that he is worried about whether Leona Lewis can win The X Factor.
The show's judge, who described Leona's performance last week as "world class", has started to doubt whether the public will vote for a female winner for the first time.
"There's still something that bothers me because historically girls don’t win these competitions," Cowell explained. "I’ve seen this happen before. When you vote for someone like Leona it’s like you’ve had a hand in her career. You’ve helped launch somebody who may do very well. Just as easily you can snuff it out."
However, despite Simon's doubts, Leona was praised by special guests Westlife when she met the singers this week.
"We've done a duet with Mariah Carey in the past but I think if Leona was singing Mariah’s part she’d fit in well," Shane Filan admitted. "She could be up there with Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, any of them."

Nominees for the "2006 American Music Awards" were announced and Mariah Carey, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback lead the nominations with three nods each. Carey, a nine-time American Music Award winner, was nominated for "Favorite Female Artist" in both the Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues categories as well as "Favorite Album" in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category for "The Emancipation of Mimi."
Winners will be announced during a Live star-studded show on ABC-TV featuring celebrity presenters, live performances and other surprises on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 8:00 PM ET/PT from inside the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.
