Friday night’s sold out show featuring teen sensation actress and singer Hilary Duff at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort leads into the most exciting month-long entertainment schedule the Taj has ever posted, including a newly-added second show featuring Mariah Carey.

The top-selling female performer of all time, Mariah Carey will perform on August 17th and August 19th at the Taj Mahal. The Saturday, August 19th show has recently been added due to high demand for what promises to be a unique performance by the platinum-selling artist currently leading radio and television hit-lists with her #1 adult R&B single "Fly Like a Bird." The Taj Mahal’s Mark G. Etess Arena is the smallest and most intimate venue that Mariah is scheduled to play during the United States stops on her current tour.

As September begins, the bilingual singer-songwriter Shakira will perform at the Taj Mahal with special guest Wyclef Jean for two shows on September 1st and September 2nd. The Friday, September 1st show is already sold out.

Once again the German version of "In Touch" managed to find a topic to fill their obligatory Mariah-pages with. We suppose sleepless nights were involved in the process of finding something to report on but then stories of Mariah’s ultimate purple diet surfaced and there’s a cover story for you. If you are looking for intelligent journalism, "In Touch" is the wrong magazine to get, but they certainly make for good pictures; Mariah wearing a pink dress on the magazine’s cover is one of them. American pop star Mariah Carey held two concerts in Tunis as part of the “Adventures of Mimi” Summer Tour. The event was considered one of the “biggest music events” ever held in the city. As Tunis was preparing for the concerts, 30,000 medium-sized promotional posters were hung up in the entrances to the biggest hotels and public squares along with 1,000 giant-sized posters and pictures of the star.

In Tunis alone, 12 points of sale were set up as part of the publicity campaign. Tunisian newspapers have scrutinised the precise details of Carey’s performance, as well as her physical preparations. Le Quotidien for instance said that Carey had tried to lose 14 kilos of weight, adding that she loves pizza. La Presse was rather more concerned with the technical aspects of the preparations, revealing that the organizers requested assistance from expert French sound technicians.

It’s not very often that someone as “famous” as Mariah Carey performs in Tunisia. Public opinion actually perceived the concerts as a success and this will give recognition to Tunisia, which will benefit our tourism and bring in considerable earnings from the huge amounts of money invested.

As was expected, thousands of fans did really attend the concerts. Yet, what strikes one, is the way the so called star stripped out of her clothes during the concert lowering the tone of the performance. Far from being just a musical show, it turned out to be aimed at diverting people’s attention from salient matters towards the merely sexual. Such an “event” contributes towards corrupting and trivialising people’s minds so that they stay intellectually starved and socially inept. It seems essential to me to perceive it not as a “big musical event” but rather as a form of cultural domination.

Mariah Carey’s music for instance ought to be seen in the light of the commoditisation of art. What has happened is that any aesthetic creativity in its production has needed to become integrated into the mass market production techniques. Triggered by a desire to cash in on the new, frenetic economic urge to produce new waves of art, aesthetic innovation has inevitably become infused with the forms, categories and contents of the dominant culture industry, which is denuding the aesthetic value of any art forms.

Today art exists, but it now lacks a genuine reason for existing other than as a medium of exchange. The present commercialisation of art has actually distorted the cultural values that have existed for centuries and there is now a tendency to treat works of art as mere "commodities".

For her second concert in Tunis on 24 July, 2006, Mariah chose to perform a selection of her "Greatest Hits."

It was ninety minutes of happiness, where you could enjoy her vocal performances, in full voice and with high notes.

Was Mariah able to attract a big audience despite the heath wave in Tunis?
Oh yes!!!! A huge crowd waited in the heat to enter at the concert.
When the long awaited moment occured and Mariah appeared, there was a big ovation. The show started with video footage of a roller coaster on a giant screen.

It’s Like That & Heartbreaker (remix) was where the diva sang in freestyle. Then came Dreamlover and My All before a break where the dancers set the stadium on fire. Mariah came back and sang Honey, Breakdown, Shake It Off, I’ll Be There, Fly Like A Bird, Fantasy, Don’t Forget About Us and I Know What You Want.

With almost the same setlist as for the first concert. Mariah came back wearing a black dress and sang Thank God I Found You (remix), One Sweet Day, Hero, Vision Of Love and Make It Happen.

Mariah Carey has two men in her life - God and the pastor who helped her get through the toughest part of her life. The singer credits her faith with helping her bounce back from a breakdown in 2001/2002, following the failure of both the movie and album Glitter, which prompted label Virgin to buy out her record contract.

Carey was particularly helped by Reverend Clarence Keaton, who performed with her at the Grammy Awards this year, and who she describes as the most important man in her life.

She says, "I really give credit for everything to God. Everything I have is because He has given it to me. So if I’ve had to go through some times that were a little difficult, and where some people had some different opinions about me - they still do and always will - but as long as I have that unconditional love from God, and I realize that no matter what, He is the one who will always be here for me, regardless."

"For this particular moment in my life, I’ve been able to go to church more and I’ve been able to have a really good relationship with my pastor Reverend Clarence Keaton of the True Worship Church. He’s just a really great person. That is something that has really helped me."

Carey insists she’s not looking for any romantic attachment, because she is still hurt by the failure of her marriage to record boss Tommy Mottola. She adds, "I don’t feel comfortable being in like 50,000 different relationships. I’ve never been that type of person. I was married and that didn’t work out, and that is something that in a lot of ways shaped the way I approach relationships."

But Carey knows what qualities her next partner will need: "He would be on the same page with me spiritually, have a sense of humor and is not concerned about being overshadowed by the fame thing."

Mariah Carey will forever be grateful she got the chance to reconnect with her estranged father before he died because she learned to love him all over again.

The singer’s parents divorced when she was a child and she grew up knowing little about her African-American father and his family. But Carey decided to swallow her pride and track down her father a few years ago - and is relieved she did.

She says, "When you grow up with one parent, you get one side of the story. I’m not saying there was a deliberate thing that happened, but that’s just the way it is."

"I was fortunate to find out things I never knew about my father. For one thing, I never knew he was in touch with my music and my career. "He wrote me a letter: `It doesn’t matter whatever is happening, you’ve always been a star to me, even before anybody knew who you were.’ It meant so much to me... I never knew he was sentimental."

"I was grateful to be able to spend time with him before he got sick. It was unfortunate that I lost him so soon after, but I was grateful for the time I was able to spend with him."

On July 14, Janet Jackson called Boston's JAM'N 94.5 for a phone interview with Bobby Blaze. Janet and Bobby chatted about the possible collaboration with Mariah as well as the "Tennessee" role that was originally intended for Jackson. When Blaze began to ridicule "Glitter," Janet defended Mariah's performance, expressing "I thought she was wonderful in 'Glitter'." Below are transcribed excerpts from the interview.

Bobby Blaze: Now, who'd you work with besides Nelly? 'Cause we all hear of these rumors about you and Mariah Carey. What's up with that joint?
Janet Jackson: Well, we're trying to make it happen. So, you'll have to stay tuned. I mean, trying to get everyone together, and schedules are crazy. So, it's something that we wanna do, and we're just trying to make it work.

BB: Is the film ("Tennessee") actually still coming out?
JJ: Mariah's doing it!

BB: Oh! She stole your film role girl! Damn!
JJ: (laughs) Mariah's doing it.

BB: No!
JJ: It's all good. I mean, they needed to go forward with it and they couldn't wait around for when I was gonna finish the project. We didn't know when we were gonna finish.

BB: Hey, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. It could be "Glitter" part two, girl. It could be a blessing in disguise!
JJ: That's wrong!

BB: No, I'm just sayin'! It could, things happen for a reason, Ms. Jackson.
JJ: You know what, I think people don't give Mariah enough credit. I thought she was wonderful in "Glitter," and I thought she just got a really bad rap. And that wasn't what I think they tried to make it out to be.

The exhibition is at the musée Jacquemart-André, 158, bd Haussmann in Paris.

As you might guess, enjoying the distinction of working with both Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson in less than a year has been "a dream come true" for Nelly.

"Amazing," Nelly said of the collaborations while sitting in Mack’s, the new sports bar he owns with the St. Lunatics, on Thursday. He recently filmed the video for his "Call on Me" duet with Jackson, and he worked with M.C. on her The Emancipation of Mimi album.

"I’m big fans of both of them. Mariah Carey, she’s possibly the best singer I’ve heard," he said. "And you watch someone such as Mariah, who went from the highest of the high to the lowest of the low, and come back like she never missed a beat, and stand up and smack everybody in the face like, `I’m still here; matter of fact I’m better’ — that gives you inspiration. That keeps me going. "

"Then Janet Jackson — come on, man, that’s Penny! That’s Charlene," he continued, referring to Jackson’s sitcom roles on "Good Times" and "Diff’rent Strokes." "Where do you go from there? It’s a beautiful thing."

Nelly said his family was especially excited when it heard about the Jackson song, which will appear on her forthcoming LP, 20 Years Old. "My family flipped out," he smiled, showing off a diamond grill covering the bottom row of his teeth. "They’re definitely fans of the Jacksons. I grew up singing Jackson Five songs. My uncle put a little band together with all the kids, and I used to have to be Mike. This was a long time ago."

The King of St. Louis said he made it a point to do true collaborations with Mariah and Janet, rather than make the track the way artists typically do — where the singer records 90 percent of the record and sends the Pro Tools file to another studio for the MC to lay his verse and ad libs.

"I wanted to do something different," he explained. "I just don’t want to be, `You do the song and I put the 16 [bars] on the end, or eight bars on the front.’ With Mariah, I went in, me and Mariah sat down and wrote the song out. With Janet, we went in, wrote the song out. It’s not like they had the song done and said, `Nelly, put your thing on it.’ I’m happy it went that way because I feel more of a part of it. You can’t take me off and still have a song."

Although Nelly loved recording with Janet, he deemed the Mariah sessions the most fun he’s ever had in two days in a studio. "When me and Mariah did the joint, we had the studio locked down," he recalled. "I was working on Sweatsuit, Snoop was working on his album and Mariah was working on her album. We had all the studio’s doors open because we’re all family.

"Snoop’s room was little more smoky than everybody else’s," he joked. "Matter of fact, I was in with Christina Aguilera in my studio and was going back and forth with Mariah. We had the basketball goal in there, we was hooping — me, Ali and one of our partners [against] Snoop, Nate Dogg and somebody else. Everybody was chilling. We in the studio, hooping like we outdoors."

So is Nelly going to call on Janet or Mariah, or maybe both superstars to return the favor and sing on his next LP? Maybe — he isn’t sure about any collaborations just yet. His next record won’t drop until next year, he said. He wants to concentrate on releasing albums by the artists on his Derrty Entertainment imprint.

Big Gipp and Ali have their duo LP, Kinfolk, coming in the next couple of months and Murphy Lee might drop his second album, The Package, before this year’s out as well. If not, the youngest `Tic will come next year, followed by Nelly and new singer Avery Storm.

NELLY insisted on going into the studio to record his duets with MARIAH CAREY and JANET JACKSON, because he wanted the songs to truly represent his experience of working with the superstars.

The HOT IN HERRE rapper often records his sections of duets by himself and then sends his contribution to his collaborator as a computer file. But he wanted to sit down to write the track TO THE FLOOR with Carey and the song CALL ON ME with Jackson from scratch, so he would feel like more than just a rapper for hire.

The El Menzah Olympic Stadium has undergone a substantial facelift, to welcome such a momentous event. A stage of 70 meters long, forty meters high and 28 meters deep has been set up for the two concerts. Six jumbo screens have also been set up next to the stage and one mobile screen was placed in the middle, moreover 200 spotlights and a number of sound boosters have also been installed.

Mariah Carey is enjoying one of the most successful years of her career. Her album "The Emancipation Of Mimi" generated three Grammy awards . As the biggest-selling album of 2005, it has sold over 9 million units worldwide to date.

For her return to the stage after being gone for three years, the American singer Mariah Carey gave a concert that caught the attention of the press Saturday night in Tunis, at the Olympic Stadium of El Menzah.

Facing the heat wave, the young people traveled towards the stadium in the afternoon, directed by the 3000 security officials. Other than the Tunisian fans, the admirers of the singer came mostly from European countries, notably France, Itale, the UK, and Germany.

The American diva, with 160 million albums sold worldwide, gave herself to please her fans. For an hour and a half, Mariah Carey performed her biggest hits "It's Like That," "My All," and "Fantasy" though skipping "Always Be My Baby" and sang a number of titles from her last album The Emancipation of Mimi.

Impressed by the ambiance, the singer rested between songs and told the audience: "I'm very happy in Tunisia. I love you," thanking the Tunisian people warmly and the first lady of Tunisia Leila Ben Ali, who presides over an assocation for employment of the disabled, with a portion of the proceeds of the concerts in Tunis benefiting her assocations.

The night ended a little after midnight on a more romantic note with "Don't Forget About Us," "Vision of Love," "Without You," and "We Belong Together."

"It was fantastic," gushed Caroline Cosgroune, a British woman who lengthened her trip in Tunisia with her husband and two daugthers to see their "favorite singer."

Mariah Carey will give her second concert Monday in the same stadium, as a prelude to a tour that will hit 30 cities in the US and Canada.

Daniels suffered a heart attack last fall, weeks into preproduction on a film with Mariah Carey. He blames his lousy health on a combination of stress, around-the-clock work, and the residue of a couple of decades’ worth of drug use. And then going cold turkey.

"I’m stopping the insanity," he says. "For the first time in my life, I’m taking two months off. I’m taking my kids to Argentina as soon as the film opens, and then I’m going to stay in Spain for a little bit when they go back to school."

And then Daniels says he’ll start work on a new film. At least, that’s the plan.

La Presse – Yes, Tunisia had high hopes when they tried to bring the biggest star of showbiz in the world to their modest country in a stadium meant for the steps of giants. Mariah Carey, the American superstar, announced her comeback last night at the Olympic Stadium of El Menzah.

What did the Olympic Stadium of El Menzah become 100 tons of material, a week of work to put a 70m stage up, 200 projectors, and six giant screens later? Quite simply, a place ready for the biggest show of this world with sound so loud it will shake the body and can reach up to 85 decibels. The music offers plenty for the ears, plenty for the eyes, and plenty for the heart. And it doesn't matter which decibels, mind you! It's the sensual voice of a diva with five octaves.

One surpasses everything to live in the magical moments like the lives of the Tunisians! One of the greatest stars of the world sings for them! The audience is in for a fabulous trip! And the trip, the whole country came to attend this megashow organized by Interval Events. In the beginning of the afternoon, the opening of the doors (at 5:00 pm to be exact), the audience was there. At 9:00 pm, the steps and ground in front of the stage were filled with plenty of people and noise outside! There was a balcony with security officials as well. The audience was in good spirits, ready to start the party. The audience was composed mostly of young people, young couples, but also of families. One even saw a few seniors on the steps. The audience was composed equally of international journalists to cover this show.

10:40 pm: the lights go out. The Olympic Stadium of El Menzah is bathed in a night of celebration, there is nothing but the flashes the light up the portable screens. The huge show started with the voice of the superstar, resonating and alerting the audience of her arrival. "Hello Tunisia!" she cries and the audience crashed together into a single wave of people. Mariah Carey was there, in flesh and blood. No more people who had taken over the steps in the entrance interrupted the singer of 5 octaves as she generously served the Tunisians.

Sensually, extraordinarily at ease on stage, Mariah Carey seemed to have found herself at the Olympic Stadium. An artist who has intrigue, of the voice and of presence, for an audience that watched the most beautiful videos of the star. An historic moment for the audience! An audience who will be sure to also applaud loudly for a show of "Tarab." Because it’s that what it was last night at the Olympic Stadium: a Tunisian audience who brought with them their 3,000 years of heritage. "I love you," Mariah Carey said to them.

Janet Jackson insists pop superstar Mariah Carey is the biggest diva she’s ever met, but says the term isn’t derogatory at all. The pair are currently working on a duet together and Jackson was amazed by Carey’s presence in the studio and her recording demands.

Despite her own prima donna claims, Jackson is adamant her behaviour doesn’t compare to the We Belong Together hitmaker’s. She tells US TV personality Ryan Seacreast, "I think Mariah wins the cake."

"You know, a lot of people look at that as something being very negative, but I don’t look at that as negative at all. She’s very grand. She’s like my sister. My sister La Toya’s grand. Like, if they were to meet, they’d hit it off immediately."

When not onstage during her fast-approaching Adventures of Mimi: The Voice, the Hits, the Tour, Mariah Carey says she’ll be laying down the groundwork for her next album. "I’m doing something I’ve never done before," the singer tells Billboard. "I’m doing the tour bus this time around. There will be much time for writing songs."

Carey says she’s looking forward to the cross-country drive. "It’s an experience I’ve never had," she says. "It will reconnect me, in a deeper way, to what’s going on in the world - to what people are doing and thinking."

The artist says she is looking to the road trip for lyrical and creative inspiration. "I fall back in love with the recording process and the studio when I`ve been away from it," she offers.

As previously reported, Carey’s outing begins Aug. 5 in Miami. Three U.S. shows on the itinerary were pulled and substituted with dates in Canada, a move attributed by tour promoter Live Nation more to heat north of the border than softness in the United States.

"She sold out Toronto, she sold out Vancouver, she did over 10,000 tickets in Montreal, and she did well in Edmonton," Live Nation vice president Brad Wavra says. "Why not gog into Winnipeg and Calgary and add another show in Toronto? The Canadian market is very hot now, and the exchange rate makes it very affordable to go up there and not feel like we’re playing for short money."

I’ve been noticing the recent rarity of long titles for No. 1s on the Hot 100. Catchy one or two-word titles are of course common, but other than "Do I Make You Proud" and "Don’t Forget About Us," there has been quite a string of quick titles in recent months. Where’s Bryan Adams when you need him?

Over the years, there have been plenty of one-word No. 1s replacing other one-word titles. However, if "Crazy" takes the top spot from "Promiscuous," there will be a chart oddity of two consecutive one-word adjectives at No. 1. Perhaps I’m the chart oddity for looking this up.

Back in October 1999, it was close with TLC’s "Unpretty" almost being directly surpassed by Santana’s "Smooth" featuring Rob Thomas, but Mariah Carey’s "Heartbreaker" squeezed in between them. Looking back through the history of the Hot 100 (back to Ricky Nelson’s "Poor Little Fool" in 1958), I didn’t notice any other back-to-back one-word adjectives.

Looking at "Promiscuous" and "Crazy" in the top two slots on the Hot 100, I did get an inkling about a potential Chart Beat item, should "Crazy" go to No. 1, but you beat me to it!

Your e-mail also reminds me of the time in 1962 when we had back-to-back one-word No. 1 hits featuring girls’ names: "Sheila" by Tommy Roe and "Sherry" by the Four Seasons. They even both started with the same three letters, and were both six-letter titles.

So to set themselves apart, the founders of p.i.n.k. vodka decided they wouldn’t just try to make drinkers tipsy - they’d get them to go bananas. In the two months since it’s been released, p.i.n.k. has already found its way into the hands of celebrities like Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Mariah Carey and even rapper DMX, who pulled a bottle on camera with him on BET’s "106 and Park," and who later insisted that p.i.n.k be provided backstage at B.B. It’s not unusual for Mariah Carey to be in front of the camera, but how about when the Grammy-winning singer gets Spike Lee to shoot the footage?

Carey has teamed with Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee to make some short vignettes for her upcoming Adventures of Mimi Tour.

According to the her official website, Carey recently made several short films in Los Angles with Lee, and the films will be screened during her headlining tour, which kicks off August 5 in Miami.

Carey is touring in support of her latest album "The Emancipation of Mimi."
