MARIAH-OH-METER: SNOW LOOK · DECEMBER 23RD, 2006 SOURCE: PEOPLE MAGAZINE |
|
|
In pure Mariah style, the singer braved the snowiest night in Aspen Wednesday to party with friends and family. Carey kept warm in a very tight leather jacket, second-skin black pants, high heels and dark oversized shades. (So what if it was at nighttime -- and snowing?!). We love how delicately she carries her glass of champagne through the flurries. What a trooper! On a scale of One being Congresswoman conservative, and Ten being ready for her video vixen close-up, we’d give this look a Six. Afterall, she’s gonna get a serious draft unless she zips up more!

Ginsburg said he feels he’s an established member of the paparazzi in Aspen and Del Palacio and his group are part of a disturbing trend here.
"I’ve been coming here for five years and I’ve got good relationships with Jack Nicholson and Mariah Carey and her bodyguards and we make sure to respect these people," he said.
"But now we’ve got these people running around with cameras who have no respect, and what’s going to happen is Aspen’s going to turn into L.A. You’re going to have 45 people running down the street with cameras."

Spoilt diva Mariah Carey today joins my Dim Shady club after going out in her huge sunnies in the dark.
The temperamental tunesmith is snapped clutching a glass of champers on her annual skiing trip to Aspen, Colorado.
It`s no wonder she needs people to guide her to her car - because she surely can§t see where she§s going in those daft specs.

ALL Mariah Carey wants for Christmas is a warm coat and a scarf, by the looks of things.
The diva relaxed with a glass of champagne in Aspen, Colorado, as she posed for paparazzi.
She was on her way to a barbecue restaurant with her bodyguard and niece.
And the diva looked happy to be on holiday.
Mariah, who has been holidaying in the resort for the last nine years, says she intends to roll naked in the snow on December 25 - after a hot bath, of course!

A WORD of warning to everyone being sucked into the latest X-Factor hype. Last year Shayne Ward, left, was talked of as the next Justin Timberlake.
A year on, he’s more likely to be just in Timberland. Asking if any Christmas jobs are going.
This year Leona Lewis is being tipped as a future Mariah Carey, when she’s most likely to become a future ex-girlfriend of David Walliams.
Still as long as they both enjoyed their "amazing journey," that’s all that matters, eh.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear - but what’s your favourite - and least love - song? Judith Cole asks the celebrities:
Siobhan McGarry, UTV reporter
I love this time of year and I’m a real fan of Christmas songs. I have two favourites - All I Want For Christmas by Mariah Carey and Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl.
Even the introduction to All I Want says Christmas to me. It’s just a wonderfully warm song which evokes everything that’s great about the festive season.

GIA FARRELL · DECEMBER 21ST, 2006 SOURCE: BILLBOARD |
|
|
I've always wanted to be a household name," gushes 17-year-old Gia Farrell to Billboard.com when asked about her goals for the future. And judging by the way things are going, that’s exactly what she will be -- perhaps sooner than anyone expected.
Farrell’s record label intended her debut single "Hit Me Up" to be, in the words of Atlantic’s senior VP of marketing Livia Tortella, a "low-key introduction" of the up-and-comer to the market. But Farrell has the makings of a breakthrough song on her hands, entering Radio & Records’ CHR/Top 40 chart at No. 40 with the effervescent cut, which appears on the soundtrack to the Warner Brothers animated feature film "Happy Feet."
Farrell, however, doesn’t seem to be feeling any of the stress that might come with breaking big at radio. "I just want to show the whole world I can do it. I’m very excited," declares the bubbly, happy-go-lucky teen. "I know it’s going to get a lot busier, but I’ve been waiting for this my whole life."
If 17 years doesn’t seem like too long a wait, it’s worth noting that the New York native got started early — very early. "I was singing before I was talking," Farrell shares. As a youngster, she was crooning along to "real singers" such as "Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and, growing up a little more, Christina Aguilera" and by the tender age of 13 had appeared on "Star Search" and "Showtime at the Apollo" — experiences which Farrell feels helped prepare her for what she’s doing today: performing non-stop. "I’ve had to fly every single day for the last five weeks, but I love going to all the different cities and the different radio stations. Performing is what it’s all about for me."
When asked, Farrell says, "Mariah Carey is the vocalist I most look up to," and Tortella compares her young songster to the superstar: "She’s got a lot in common with Mariah Carey in terms of her scope. She makes such a strong impression just walking into a room and singing with no back-up, with no production. She’s a natural talent."

CHRISTMAS TRACKS TAKE OVER DOWNLOAD CHARTS · DECEMBER 21ST, 2006 SOURCE: CBBC |

Christmas tunes are taking over the download chart this week with loads of festive songs trying to battle their way to the top spot.
Although Take That are still number one with Patience, Mariah Carey is hot on their heels at number two with All I Want For Christmas Is You.
And at number three are the 1980s band the Pogues with their classic festive tune Fairytale of New York.
Up 12 to number nine is another old band called Wham with Last Christmas.
New entries include I Wish it Could Be Christmas Everyday by Wizzard at 26. And old rocker Shakin’ Stevens was new at 29 with Merry Christmas Everyone.
Other tunes to keep an eye on are this week’s highest new entry A Great Big Sled by Killers. And Matt Willis went in at 39 with Don’t Let It Go To Waste.

TUNDE: I’D SAY NO TO MARIAH · DECEMBER 21ST, 2006 SOURCE: THE SUN |
|
|
I can’t imagine there’s many red-blooded males who would turn down the chance to get up close and personal with MARIAH CAREY.
As well as being stunningly good-looking, Mariah is also one of the biggest-selling artists of all time.
However the idea sends shivers through the spine of former Lighthouse Family star TUNDE BAIYEWU.
The talented singer - who is going solo on his first tour for four years in January - says he can think of nothing worse than working with the notorious diva.
In an exclusive interview, Tunde - most famous for 1995 smash hit single Lifted - said: "I’d have to say no to Mariah if she asked me to do a duet with her. I mean, we’d just want different things."
"She’d want to sing love songs and I wouldn’t. We just wouldn’t have anything in common."
He added: "I’d rather sing with someone who is not really big and famous."
"Having said that, she might help me sell lots of records!"
After parting ways with Lighthouse Family due to a `heavy promotional schedule’ in 2003, Tunde started work on his self-entitled solo album.
He said: "After the second Lighthouse Family record, I thought that we were treading water. I was happy in the group but always felt I wanted to express myself more."
"I spent a lot of time working on my first solo record. The songs reflect a lot of the stuff I’ve been through over the past four years, plus my Nigerian heritage is in there too. "
"The lyrics are very personal. I think I’m doing things with my voice now that people won’t have heard before; it’s more expressive.”
Key songs on Tunde’s album include Our History - in which he sings about his feelings towards Nigeria, the country of his father’s birth and where he was brought up for most of his childhood - and the moving Anaesthetic, an extremely personal song written after the death of his mother some four years ago.
Tunde said: "That was the most difficult song I have ever written."
"It actually took me about two years before I could even go there lyrically."
"There’s a line in the song, in Nigerian, where I say `Oluwa Shanu-Mi’, which means `Lord have mercy on me’."
"That was what my mother was screaming in the hospital as she died. Very harrowing."
But while the star is enjoying his time alone, there is one person Tunde wouldn’t mind working with again - his Lighthouse Family buddy PAUL TUCKER.
He said: "We haven’t spoken for a while but I’d definitley be interested in reforming with Paul. Hopefully it will happen one day.
"There have been so many bands who have reformed this year.
"Take That have done well but a lot of the others have failed. I think some of the groups got back together just to sell records and that’s not good."
"If you’re going to get back together you should do things for the right reason."

SEARCHING FOR MUSIC THIS CHRISTMAS? · DECEMBER 20TH, 2006 SOURCE: WEBPRONEWS |

What is your favorite Christmas song? Are you a fan of the traditional hymns like Silent Night or do you prefer the more contemporary songs like Jingle Bell Rock? Do you know all of the 12 Days of Christmas? Are you waiting patiently for your Winter Wonderland to arrive?
If so, then the Yahoo Buzz blog has a list for you. Seeing how it’s that time of year for all things festive, they decided to put one of those endless mountains of data to good use to let us know what the most popular Christmas songs are... at least from the Yahoo Search perspective.
The list, which is forthcoming, doesn’t really hold any surprises, save for the fact that Run-DMC’s Christmas in Hollis is noticeably absent. The list is a good mix of the traditional staples like Silent Night and Jingle Bells with a dash of the new breed like Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas.
I was, however, surprised by the most searched song - Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. One has to believe the Rudolph television event perpetuates the song’s popularity. Anyway, without further adieu, here’s Yahoo’s list of the most popular Christmas songs:
1. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1949)
2. 12 Days of Christmas (16th century)
3. Nutcracker (Suite) (1891)
4. All I Want for Christmas is You (1994)
5. Frosty the Snowman (1950)
6. Jingle Bells (1857)
7. Silent Night (1816)
8. Baby It’s Cold Outside (1948)
9. O Holy Night (1847)
10. Deck the Halls (19th century)
11. Winter Wonderland (1934)
12. White Christmas (1940)
13. Santa Baby (1953)
14. Jingle Bell Rock (1957)
15. Feliz Navidad (1970)
16. All I Want for Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth) (1944)
17. Mary, Did You Know (1984)
18. Last Christmas (1984)
19. Where Are You Christmas (2000)
20. Let it Snow (1945)

Honey B. Fly had the opportunity to sit down with Mariah in her dressing room after the Sacramento stop on her Emancipation of Mimi tour.
In their first video clip Mariah discusses performing with her special guests such as Jay-Z, P. Diddy and Sean Paul.
[Check It Out!]
For those of you who aren't members of Honey B. Fly, here's a transcript of the interview:
Sean Paul - "It was so good to have Sean Paul on the tour. He was very, very festive. The crowd really enjoyed him."
Busta Rhymes - "Busta is amazing. I was nervous in the beginning because Busta is very... he's excited. I can't come out with a 'I came to have a party...' after what he tells people what to do and say on stage. He's a little intense. But I do the best I can with what I got."
Da Brat - "When she comes out on Heartbreaker, it's just incredible. It's so much better than when it's just the screen to have Brat there. She's so full of excitement."
Mike Jones - "We were in Houston and Mike Jones came out and I wanted to watch him like, 'why can't I watch his part.' I was so mad 'cause I didn't know if he was gonna come out or not. But that was completely an amazing moment."
Jermaine Dupri - "When we did ATL, when Jermaine came out and was like 'A-T-L!' and then everybody was really screaming wild. But he was like, 'A-T-L!' Hello! scream a little louder. It was really funny."
Sean 'Puffy' Combs - "It was just nice to have Puff come out 'cause he's very much a star no matter where he is."
Jay-Z - "I didn't know whether Jay was gonna come out on Heartbreaker or not so I'm sitting there kind of waiting, 'is he coming out, is he not coming out?' And Jay came out. It was so loud like the noise was so deafening when he came out. That was a real, real treat.

Mariah Carey is on the cover of Aspen Peak magazine, so no wonder she’s going to be in town Boxing Day (Dec. 26) for a launch party at the Hotel Jerome for the issue.
Her people say she’ll mingle, talk about an upcoming movie and her new perfume and tell who she’s gonna kiss on New Year’s Eve.
"I love the vibe of Aspen," she tells Aspen Peak. "Not necessarily the whole paparazzi-celebrity thing, which is cool, but I do stuff like going on sleigh rides with friends. Being out in Aspen is always so amazing and picturesque."
Asked where she’s going to stay in Aspen, Carey says, "I don’t know yet, but it has to have a hot tub. ... It’s a tradition for us to have Santa Claus-looking bikinis, jump out of the hot tub, and roll in the fresh snow." Ho daddy!

If you’re hitting the slopes in Aspen or Snowmass on Christmas Day, you might want to watch out for singer Mariah Carey picking her way down the hill.
Carey, who gorgeously graces the cover of Aspen Peak magazine’s holiday issue, confesses to being "not a great skier."
During her Glamour Gulch holiday this year, the Grammy-winning singer plans to try snowboarding. "I haven’t gotten past the `fall on your buttocks stage yet,’ " she tells Aspen Peak, "so I’m waiting for that to happen."
Carey says she’s been coming to Aspen during Christmas since 1997, and would like to build a place of her own on the outskirts of town. Carey plans to host an invite-only Boxing Day party at the Hotel Jerome on Dec. 26 to talk about her new CD and part in the movie Tennessee.
